It began with a dream.
During her first pregnancy, local artist Else Marie dreamed of a large female polar bear swimming close beside her. She could hear and feel its breath as it passed. Although she had never seen a polar bear in real life, the dream inspired her to begin painting them.

Born in Narsaq and raised in Nuuk from an early age, Else Marie draws inspiration from her family’s creativity. Her grandmother’s Greenlandic beadwork has shaped her approach to colour, while her mother’s art introduced her to acrylic painting. A trained graphic designer, she now makes her living from her paintings.
