Summer adventure & culture

Ilulissat to Nuuk

Experience an arctic adventure under the midnight sun in Greenland. Explore the breathtaking UNESCO Ilulissat icefjord and immerse in the authentic atmosphere of Nuuk, the heart of the Greenlandic nation.

Arctic adventures have never been so close. You will fly from Copenhagen to Ilulissat with a short layover in Kangerlussuaq. In the plane you can enjoy the view over the vast landscape of Greenland, which you are about to explore. Our staff will pick you up in Ilulissat airport and drive you to our hotel, which lies in the higher part of town, offering a beautiful view over the world famous icefjord.

Sailing around icebergs
It is time to explore the land of ice. During these three days in Ilulissat you will get the chance to see the icebergs from up close. We have arranged an icefjord cruise for you, during which you will set sail on the fjord and sail around the floating icebergs. This is where you get the chance to truly feel the power of Greenlandic nature, but also where you can take the most spectacular pictures.

Hike to the Icefjord Centre
To understand the icefjord, its story and its importance you will embark on a short hike in the picturesque backcountry. We will take the narrow wooden path that will lead us to an architectural pearl of Ilulissat, the Ilulissat Icefjord centre. Here you will hear about the history of the fjord and what it means for modern research of climate change.

Explore Ilulissat and its culture
We also encourage you to explore Ilulissat on your own. In town you can find a small wooden Zion church or a home of the famous arctic explorer, Knud Rasmussen. You can also stop by ‘brættet’ local market where fishermen sell their catch of the day.

It is time to set sail again and head towards Nuuk, the capital city of Greenland. In Ilulissat harbour you will come onboard ferry called Sarfaq Ittuk, that sails along the western coast of Greenland. Here you can enjoy the view over the coast and western shores of Greenland.

Culture of Nuuk
Welcome to the heart of the Greenlandic Nation. Nuuk is a city that shows both the traditional and the modern side of the country. You will experience both during our guided tour through the town. We will walk by the statue ‘Mother of the Sea’, Annaassisitta Oqaluffia the Greenlandic Cathedral, the award winning ‘Katuaq’ cultural centre and the University of Greenland.

Catch & cook
Nuuk is a big city according to Greenlandic conditions, but the mighty nature dominates. We will set sail in Nuuk Fjord that is booming with life. It is pretty easy to catch a fish here, even if you have never tried it before. There is nothing like enjoying freshly caught fish for dinner and our chef will prepare your catch of the day in our restaurant.

Nuuk colonial harbour
Let us explore the historical part of town. We will walk around in the colonial harbour that is famous for its houses that are still standing as they did 300 years ago. We will also visit Nuuk museum which holds artefacts from all civilisations in Greenland.

Arctic spa & relax
At the end of every arctic adventure comes time for the well deserved relax. There is no better place to enjoy arctic pampering than our outdoor hot tub overlooking Nuuk harbour.

Taste a piece of Greenland
After arctic spa relaxation you will enjoy a 4-course dinner in our Restaurant SØMA. Here you can taste our seasonal menu carefully put together by our chef Jacob to celebrate local ingredients with a twist. All dishes are built on local Greenlandic ingredients such as lamb from Narsaq or Musk ox.

It is time to say goodbye. Your arctic adventure is at an end and we will drive you to the Nuuk Airport from which you will fly back to Copenhagen, full of memories and unforgettable experiences that will stay with you forever.

Experience the best of Greenlandic summer. Let us take you on a journey from Sisimiut to Ilulissat via Aasiaat, with many adventures on the way.

You will fly to Sisimiut, Greenland’s second largest town, from Copenhagen with a short layover in Kangerlussuaq. In the plane you can enjoy the view over the vast landscape of Greenland, which you are about to explore. Our staff will pick you up in Ilulissat airport and drive you to our hotel, located across the street from Sisimiut museum.

Climb the Nasaasaaq peak
Sisimiut is the right pace to be for every adventure lover. We have arranged a guided hike to the Nasaasaaq peak that overlooks the Sisimiut town. Along the way you will see spectacular panoramic views over the town and the vast backcountry.

Sailing to the ghost town of Assaqutaq
Let us combine adventure with a touch of culture. We will sail to an abandoned settlement located on a nearby island. Here you will get the chance to explore the abandoned buildings and image what a daily life here could have looked like.

Catch & cook
On the way back from Assaqutaq we will try your fishing skills in the Sisimiut fjord. It is normally quite easy to catch a fish even if you have never tried it before. There is nothing like tasting a fresh fish you have caught yourself and our chef will prepare and serve it for you in our cafeteria.

Arctic spa & sauna
After hiking and sailing adventures you will experience a touch of arctic luxury. Relax in our outdoor spa and sauna area with the view over the mountains and the bay. Before departure you can also taste our renowned brunch.

Visit Greenlandic sled dogs
The powerful sled dogs that are a special breed of husky are only to be found in Greenland and are a national icon of the country. Let us take you to the dog town, located right behind Sisimiut. Here you can visit a pack of sled dogs and learn more about the relationship between the musher and his animals.

It is time to set sail again and head towards Aasiaat, a small town at the shores of Diskobay. In Sisimiut harbour you will come onboard a ferry called Sarfaq Ittuk, that sails along the western coast of Greenland. Here you can enjoy the view over the coast and western shores of Greenland.

Sea safari
You will spend one night at Hotel SØMA Aasiaat that lies practically on the water. Our private dock is a starting point of many arctic adventures on the water. Come on board and let us take you on a sea safari tour out in the Diskobay. The waters are booming with life and with a little luck we will see seals, seagulls and even whales emerging from the water to take a breath.

More water adventures
You will also have the chance to explore the waters around Aasiaat even closer. We will take you on a kayak or a stand up paddling tour (according to your preference). Our guide will instruct you and choose the right route according to your level of experience.

It is time to sail even more up north. You will sail with the regular water traffic connection Discoline to Ilulissat, the town known world wide for its famous icefjord.

Icefjord cruise
You will spend the next three days in Ilulissat and naturally have to explore the iceberg from up close. We have arranged an icefjord cruise for you, during which you will set sail on the fjord and sail around the floating icebergs. This is where you get the chance to truly feel the power of Greenlandic nature, but also where you can take the most spectacular pictures.

Hiking
Together, we will explore the hiking routes in the Ilulissat back country. We know the best places where you can get a great view over the icefjord and we will also go by the Ilulissat Icefjord Centre, an architectural pearl located away from the town.

It is time to say goodbye. Your arctic adventure is at an end and we will drive you to the Ilulissat Airport from which you will fly back to Copenhagen, full of memories and unforgettable experiences that will stay with you forever.

Arctic winter adventure

Sisimiut to Nuuk

Experience a piece of Greenlandic winter. Let us take you on a journey to the arctic circle region where your adventures start in Sisimiut. After 4 days of exploring the arctic country, you will depart to the heart of Greenlandic nation, Nuuk.

You will fly to Sisimiut, Greenland’s second largest town from Copenhagen with a short layover in Kangerlussuaq. In the plane you can enjoy the view over the vast snow-covered landscape of Greenland, which you are about to explore. Our staff will pick you up in Sisimiut airport and drive you to our hotel, located across the street from Sisimiut museum.

Snowmobiling
Sisimiut is a dream come true for every nature and adrenaline lover. Together we will embark on a snowmobile adventure in the vast backcountry. We will quickly leave town and enter the wild nature far away from civilisation and we will stop at the most breathtaking views, or to warm up after an icy ride with a cup of hot coffee.

Dogsledding
We will be back to explore the backcountry by a more traditional way – dog sledding. Strong greenlandic sled dogs are a national icon and know their way around the country better than any GPS system. The adventure starts when you feel the first pull of the dog sledge. As your sled runs through the greenlandic winterland, you will get a taste of what life was like in the old days, when dog sledding was the only way of transportation on the mainland.

Arctic spa & sauna
There is nothing like coming back from a dog sledding or snowmobiling tour and relaxing in our arctic spa & sauna. You will enjoy a touch of arctic pampering in our outdoor hot tub with the view over the cliffs and the bay. With a little luck you can even see the northern lights dancing above the town.

Snowshoe hike
It is truly incredible how much easier it is to explore the snow-covered land with snowshoes on your feet. Your bodyweight is spread evenly on the surface which allows you to walk effortlessly even in deep snow. Our snowshoes will lead us to Sallinguit, or Teleisland in English, that is connected to the mainland by a bridge. It hosts the oldest remains of human existence not only in the area of Sisimiut, but also in whole Greenland, dating back as far as 4500 years. During this easy hike, we will follow a historic route and see old peat houses and stonegraves.

Sisimiut Museum
Last but not least you can not leave Sisimiut without visiting its historical museum, located just across the street from Hotel SØMA. It tells the story of Sisimiut that has been inhabited for thousands of years by different cultures such as Palaeo-Inuit Saqqaq people, Dorset people and finally Thule people.

It is time to set sail again and head towards Nuuk, the capital city of Greenland. In Sisimiut harbour you will come onboard a ferry called Sarfaq Ittuk, that sails along the western coast of Greenland. Here you can enjoy the view over the coast and western shores of Greenland.

Culture of Nuuk

We will walk by the historical colonial harbour, the statue ‘Mother of the Sea’, Annaassisitta Oqaluffia the Greenlandic Cathedral, the award winning ‘Katuaq’ cultural centre and the University of Greenland.

Nuuk Museum
We will also immerse in the history of Greenland in the Nuuk National Museum which holds artefacts from all civilisations in Greenland.

Arctic spa & relax
At the end of every arctic adventure comes time for the well deserved relax. There is no better place to enjoy arctic pampering than our outdoor hot tub overlooking Nuuk harbour.
