Hidden gem

¨Great hotel! It is about 15 minutes from the airport and walking distance to midtown which is also about 15-20 minutes. The area is very easy to get around. Everyone on the staff was pleasant and knowledgeable.  The rooms are very spacious and comfortable. By staying at this hotel you are able to help the local community which is so welcoming and friendly.¨

About Hotel SØMA

Hotel SØMA is one of Greenland’s largest hotel chains with four hotels spread across the western coast, in Nuuk, Sisimiut, Aasiaat and Ilulissat. Together, the hotels provide more than 150 hotel rooms, large meeting facilities and over 50 tours and activities.

The hotel group was established in Greenland in 1969 and known until recently as “Sømandshjemmet” (“The Seaman’s Home”). In 2021, it was renamed “Hotel SØMA”, reflecting an extensive redevelopment including thorough renovations and the establishment of new restaurants at all four hotels. The interior design is Nordic, with decor characterized by Greenlandic culture, nature, and history.

For more than 50 years, our hotels have been a cornerstone of maritime welfare work in Greenland, working closely with local communities. Christian values such as compassion and equality still make the foundation of all hotel activities. Our hotels remain 100 % not-for-profit which means that all profit is directed to welfare programs among seafarers,  fishermen and the local communities.

As a measure of our ongoing support, the popular cafeterias at each hotel continue to operate under the name “Sømandshjemmet”. Here, many locals meet for social events and to enjoy decent meals at affordable prices.
