Become a Hotel Assistant in Greenland

Then you might be our new colleague! We are looking for hotel assistants for our beautiful hotel in Ilulissat, Greenland for the 2026 season. You will play a key role in the hotel’s day-to-day operations, gain broad hands-on experience in the hotel industry, and have world-class nature experiences waiting just outside your door.

Hotel SØMA Ilulissat is a breakfast hotel with 22 rooms and 4 employees during high season. As a hotel assistant, you will play an essential part in the daily operations, as we support each other and cover different tasks across the team.
We are searching for two different periods.
One contract runs mid-May to mid-October, the other early June to late November 2026.

Job Tasks

This is a full-time position, and the tasks are very varied – no two days are alike. You will receive thorough training in the tasks and in how to run a successful hotel in practice.

Morning shift: Preparing and running the breakfast café, handling dishwashing, keeping the restaurant clean and tidy, followed by housekeeping, stocking, and quality checks. (2–3 times per week)

Housekeeping: Rooms are cleaned after check-out to prepare for new arrivals. Stay-over rooms are tidied and refreshed. This also includes cleaning common areas and keeping the laundry running.

Administration: Shared responsibility for reception tasks, guest check-in/out, sales of kiosk items and souvenirs, email handling, and general administration.

Practical tasks: Tidying up, washing windows and cars, driving guests (limited), collecting goods, snow clearing, and general maintenance of hotel facilities.

On-call duties: On-call phone duties are shared among the team. One shift runs from 15:00 until 07:00 the next morning. Permanent staff always have backup duty. (2–3 times per week)


We Imagine That You

  • Have good English skills (other languages are an advantage)
  • Hold a driver’s licence
  • Have vocational or upper-secondary education
  • Have basic knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Have relevant experience from the service sector (an advantage, not a requirement)

  • Have good collaboration and interpersonal skills
  • Are good at keeping an overview
  • Are proactive and solution-oriented

Working Conditions (5 months)

We are searching for two different periods.
One contract runs mid-May to mid-October, the other early June to late November 2026.

Working hours vary with morning, day, and evening shifts. Schedules are planned at least 14 days ahead. Weekend and holiday work must be expected. Average working hours are 40–50 hours per week, with a high degree of flexibility. You have 2 days off per week, sometimes consecutively.

About Hotel SØMA: Small Hotel – Close Community

Hotel SØMA Ilulissat is a tourist hotel located in Greenland’s tourism capital, Ilulissat. We are part of Greenland’s oldest hotel chain with more than 50 years of experience. In Ilulissat we are a small team of two permanent employees, joined by two hotel assistants during high season.

The Seamen’s Mission’s diaconal work in Ilulissat is based at the hotel, where a chaplain carries out Christian welfare work among seafarers and fishermen in the town.
We eat breakfast and dinner together, have short devotions twice a week, and hold a weekly staff meeting.


A World of Experiences Awaits

Ilulissat is Greenland’s third-largest town and offers endless opportunities for exploring Greenland. At the Icefjord, you can experience majestic icebergs and hike the UNESCO World Heritage trails. You can also hike north to the settlement of Oqaatsut in the snow-free months.

In winter, there are excellent conditions for snowmobiling and cross-country skiing. Ilulissat has frequent boat, airplane, and helicopter connections to other settlements in Disko Bay, making it easy to explore more of Greenland.

The town has an active cultural scene with associations, cafés, a culture house, museums, etc., making it easy to meet new people. There are also many Danes living in the town.
