Join a unique snowmobile experience in Sisimiut’s stunning backcountry!
This course is designed for beginners who own their own snowmobile and want to learn technique, maintenance, safety, and terrain riding. Each day combines theory, hands-on practice, and guided trips into the wilderness under safe conditions, helping you get comfortable with your machine, meet fellow enthusiasts, and explore the breathtaking Arctic landscape.

Start your snowmobile journey with an introduction to machines, clothing, and gear. Learn about 2-stroke and 4-stroke engines, different models such as mountain, trail, and crossover, and essential equipment like an extra belt, snow shovel, spark plugs, and repair tools. We’ll cover proper clothing, safety gear, and pre-ride checks including oil, coolant, and fuel. After the introduction, we’ll head out for a short first trip into the backcountry, where you can try out your new skills under the guide’s supervision.

Focus on maintenance and service for your snowmobile. Learn how to change the belt, spark plugs, and other key components. The guide will demonstrate how to handle damage in the backcountry using simple solutions like zip-ties, extra coolant, and tow ropes. We wrap up the day with a ride into the backcountry, where you’ll put your repair techniques into practice and learn to navigate different terrain safely.

Learn how to handle situations where you get stuck, lose balance, or experience a rollover. We’ll practice sidehilling, two-person teamwork, and techniques for digging out in deep snow. The guide shares practical tips to keep you moving safely, while we combine theory with short backcountry sessions so you can apply each technique directly in real conditions.

This day is dedicated to backcountry safety, including avalanches and the proper use of equipment such as beacons, shovels, probes, and emergency communication devices. We’ll go through snow profiles, avalanche behavior, and how to respond effectively if an accident occurs. After theory and hands-on demonstrations, we’ll head out on a controlled backcountry tour where you can apply these safety principles in practice under the guide’s supervision.

Own snowmobile and avalanche beacon required, as well as participation in the previous sessions.
