This one-day introductory course is designed for local residents who own a snowmobile and want a safe, confidence-building introduction to backcountry riding. No prior backcountry experience is required.

You’ll learn the essentials of both riding and safety, with a strong focus on understanding your machine and making smart decisions in the mountains.

  • Basic snowmobile operation and riding confidence
  • Simple maintenance checks (belt, spark plug, and key components)
  • Overview of common snowmobile parts and troubleshooting in the field
  • What to do if something goes wrong while out riding
  • Fundamentals of backcountry safety and basic avalanche awareness
  • How to use essential safety equipment: beacon, shovel, probe, and emergency communication devices
  • Clear, easy-to-follow instruction
